Successful treatment starts with a good fit between you and the therapist.
In performing individual therapy, I use varied methods of talk therapy to enable an in-depth holistic approach to your problem. My specialties include treating depression, anxiety, grief reactions, self-esteem issues, personality disorders, anger management, parenting skills, elder issues, coping with physical illness and addiction/eating disorders. I do individual work with ages from pre-teens to seniors. (Children under 10 years old should be seen by a psychotherapist who specializes in treating children.)
In performing couple therapy, I combine individual approaches with couple work in order for you and your partner to better understand each other. Frequently treated issues are communication difficulties, infidelity and emotional distance. Yet, I do not stop with only the presenting problem in the couple. Often there are individual issues which need to be addressed simultaneously for in-depth change to be possible. Here, you will gain the benefits of individual therapy while working on improving your relationship. It is the fusion of two individual therapies plus couple treatment that provides the most thorough, most lasting results in relationships.
In performing family therapy, I go further by focusing also on how the family members function as a system and where change may be indicated. You have a role in your family that influences how you deal with problems and how you interact with others. Often, how your role interacts with other family members' roles can create friction. We will deal with how you talk to each other and why. You will learn new ways of relating to enhance those relationships. Furthermore, once mastered, those positive changes can last a lifetime.
Each new skill or approach you learn in therapy is like learning to use a new tool to fix an old problem. When you are finished with treatment, you will have an entire toolbox of approaches so that you are confident and ready to deal with issues within yourself, your relationship, and your family.
When coming to therapy, an essential element is feeling comfortable with the therapist and the location. My office is a relaxed setting which offers you a sense of refuge from stress, a place where your feel safe to explore your inner self as well as your relationship with others.
